Discipleship Class
"Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me."
Matthew 16:24 KJV
The call to discipleship is the call that every Christian is to accept. It is not just for the pastor, evangelist, teacher, or missionary, we are all to follow Christ’s command. The only way a disciple of Jesus Christ can be made is by one who has been discipled using Jesus' method themselves.
Then Jesus came to them and said: "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptize them in the name of the father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:18-20)
Teaching others is what Jesus demonstrates continuously in the new Testament. Jesus devotes quality time to his disciples to train them so they may go out into the vast world to train others. In turn, those trained by the disciples are equipped to train others to continue the advancement of God’s kingdom here on earth. Here at Greater Gethsemane, our discipleship model divides the training into three major stages: Equipping and establishing a foundation, Empowering faithful living, Envisioning for ministry and leadership.
Each stage allows the disciple in training to experience a process that will equip him with the tools and confidence to carry out the Great Commission. If we document the journey Jesus had with the original disciples, we will find that it took Jesus 3 years to complete this process. Like Jesus, we take this commission seriously.
Our motto at The Discipleship Institute is,
